The midface lift is a very new procedure designed to rejuvenate the central portion of the face. Traditional facelift procedures often are inadequate in rejuvenating the area of the lower eyelid, cheek, and nasolabial folds. The traditional facelift puts tension on the skin over the jawline and neck but often does not raise the cheek adequately. For years, many surgeons have pulled faces too tight as they attempted to raise the cheek up. This resulted in the dreaded "pulled" or "wind tunnel" appearance. The midface lift procedure performed by Dr. Wigoda addresses this important part of the face and allows for a complete facial rejuvenation with a very natural look. The procedure is so new, it is performed by only a few surgeons around the country.
How is the procedure performed?
The midface lift can be done either as an isolated procedure, typically in a younger patient, or as part of a complete facelift. As an isolated procedure, it is often done under local anesthesia with sedation. An incision is made just beneath the lower eyelid lash line, just as with a lower blepharoplasty. From this incision site, Dr. Wigoda is able to raise the cheek to a more youthful position onto the cheekbone. This gives the illusion of high cheek bones. At the same time, the nasolabial fold (between the lips and cheek) is minimized. The scar is hidden under the lashes. The procedure can be performed as an outpatient. Recovery time is minimal.
