Laser Resurfacing

Looking for fresher, younger-looking skin? Finally, you can receive that “renewed” complexion with a smoother, more toned, youthful feel. Laser resurfacing is also referred to as “Laser peel.” The procedure uses a laser to precisely refinish damaged areas and shrink fine wrinkles. It is also used to correct areas of uneven pigmentation resulting in a much smoother, younger-looking complexion.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Resurfacing?

Any individuals who have the following conditions are good candidates for laser peel:

  • Fine lines, crow’s feet
  • Vertical lines around the mouth
  • Facial Scars caused by injury, accident or acne
  • Age spots and other areas of uneven pigmentation
  • Sun-damaged skin, lines on the cheeks
  • Male or Female in Good Health
  • Variety of Complexions will not cause complications
  • Thickness and texture may impact results

How is the Laser Resurfacing Procedure Performed?

Your skin’s current state has an upper layer of damaged skin. With the use of a laser beam of energy, the laser vaporizes that upper layer with precision. During the healing process, new cells form a smoother, tighter, younger-looking top layer.

Once the procedure is complete, you will notice:

  • Improved firmness and texture
  • Reversal of aged and sun-damaged skin
  • Reduction in the appearance of acne and other scars
  • Smoothed out wrinkles and lines
  • Renewed, younger-looking YOU!

Laser Resurfacing, while it is great for your skin alone can often be used with facelifts as well. The combination of the two together after a weekend facelift, when the mid-face and neck are sagging, can help restore the surface and tone of aged/sun-damaged skin.

How long does the procedure take?

Depending on the conditions, Laser Resurfacing procedures vary in time. For cases that require minimal laser resurfacing, the entire procedure can be finished within a few minutes. For those who require treatment to a much greater area, the procedure can take upwards of around 1.5 hours. It is uncommon, but skin conditions that are extremely deep may be required to have two separate procedures performed to even out imperfections.

What to expect during recovery?

Once the procedure is complete, it is highly recommended that you allow seven to ten days before returning to normal activity. During this time, you will likely be bandaged and frequently required to apply ointment and ice to the treated areas. Scabbing is common and can appear during this time. Expect swelling and redness to dissipate gradually over the first seven to ten days. Once the swelling is down you may return to regular activity, but your skin will have a pinkish tone for several weeks and be sun sensitive. After the first week, do your best to exercise regularly as this will assist in the healing process.
