Arm Lift / Brachioplasty
Flabby upper arm area can persist, despite constant exercising and weight lifting. Many men and women are self-conscious about excess skin sagging on their arms, as it can off-set their overall appearance. This problem typically occurs in a person that has undergone a dramatic weight loss. This problem is more common in women, as they find it more difficult to get rid of excess fat in the upper arm, even with rigorous exercise. Furthermore, as one ages, the upper arm skin can become loose and flabby. It can be difficult to reduce this excess fat and skin along the arms, leading concerned men, and women to turn to plastic surgery.
Brachioplasty, better known as “Arm Lift Surgery”, is performed to remove loose skin and/or excess fat from the upper arm. Patients can choose between two options of arm lift surgery: One is a full arm lift, where fatty tissue is contoured within the arm, and unwanted skin is removed. Remaining skin is pulled and sutured in place, to create a slimmer and firmer arm. This procedure is most common for patients with a large amount of extra skin. The second option is a limited incision arm lift, where an incision is made within the armpit, and excess tissue is removed, then remaining skin is pulled into a tighter position. This procedure is best for those with minimal to moderate excess flabby skin on the arms.
The upper arm can be treated with liposuction if the primary problem is excess fat, or, with a combination of liposuction and removal of excess skin if the skin is loose. The incision for removal and tightening of the skin can be hidden in the armpit if there is only a moderate amount of excess skin. If there is a significant amount of skin to remove, the incision is placed along the inner aspect of the arm to minimize the visibility. First, the patient will meet with Dr. Wigoda and his team, who will assess the individuals needs and create a surgical plan for their specific condition. Once you are prepped for surgery, you will then undergo general anesthesia, and your surgeon will help to remove and tighten the excess skin.
